What kinds of wall outlet are there?
A wall outlet is a facility that you can connect electrical equipment to. Usually a wall outlet is used to connect electrical energy, such as 220 or 380 volts. But a wall socket can also be used for signal or communication transfer. You should think of a UTP wall outlet or a COAX wall outlet.
Wall outlets for TV
If your television uses a COAX cable to receive the signal, you can make a wall outlet with a COAX connection. A COAX cable can transmit high-frequency signals without being disturbed. A COAX cable usually has a frequency range of 5 Mhz up to and including 3,000Mhz. This type of connection is mainly reflected in analogue television and television systems that use a dish, such as satellite TV. Nowadays, TV is used more often over the internet, and use is therefore made of a different connection.
UTP wall outlet
UTP means in Dutch double wire or "twisted pair". The abbreviation comes from English and stands for Unshielded Twisted Pair. This cable is used for data transfer and is mainly used for phoning and internet. This cable can be divided into 9 categories. The rule of thumb is: The higher the category, the higher the data transfer. These categories are:
- Cat5, Currently often used, 100 Mbit/s, 100 Mhz ethernet networks
- Cat5e, Currently often used, 1.000 Mbit/s, 100 Mhz ethernet networks
- Cat6, Currently often used, 10.00 Mbit/s, 250 Mhz ethernet networks
- Cat6a, Currently often used, 10.00 Mbit/s, 500 Mhz ethernet networks
- Cat7, Currently often used, 10.000 Mbit/s, 10.000 Mhz ethernet networks
Placing RJ45 wall outlets
An RJ45 wall outlet, or an internet waal outlet, is easy to install yourself. Compared with a normal wall outlet, you do not work here with high voltages and therefore it is less risky.
When connecting a Cat5 or higher category to an RJ45 wall outlet, it is important to place the veins in the correct order. If the order is incorrect, the result is a bad or not working internet connection. The order of the cables is the opposite of that of an internet plug. This is because in this case you connect it to a connector.
